Do I need a GP referral to access your services?

No referral is necessary to book private midwifery care. Medicare rebates and some Private Health fund rebates are available. Check your Private Health Policy for information on whether midwifery care is included.

Can I hire a Private Midwife if I’m planning to give birth at Tamworth Hospital?

Yes, absolutely! Private midwifery care provides comprehensive antenatal and postnatal support alongside your hospital birth plan, ensuring continuous care before and after your hospital stay. We collaborate with the public hospital service to ensure you’re getting the most out of your pregnancy care, without the confusion!
How do Medicare Rebates work for Private Midwifery Care?

As an Endorsed Midwife, specific antenatal and postnatal consultations attract a Medicare rebate. The exact figure varies because your care is tailored to your needs, some women will require more appointments, and some appointments will be longer or shorter.
Your rebates may be claimed along the way or as a single bulk payment at the closure of care. Where care needs far exceed the routine schedule, additional care is fully bulk-billed to the Private Midwife so your package fee never increases but you still receive the care you need.
What happens if I experience complications during pregnancy or postpartum?

Your safety is primary. If medical complications arise outside the scope of independent midwifery care, I work in consultation with Obstetrics, Medicine, Allied Health and Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital to arrange smooth care transfers.
In accordance with the Australian College of Midwives Guidelines for Consultation and Referral – regardless of risk category midwifery care continues. If care needs are above the scope of Endorsed Midwifery, then your lead care provider shifts but midwifery support continues.
Continuous care provision ensures your complex needs are met holistically and collaboratively.
Private Midwife Care DOES NOT replace emergency care. If you are experiencing an emergency call 000 or Tamworth Birth Unit on 6767 7310.
How does the in-home Hyperemesis Fluid Service work?

Accessed as either a standalone treatment or care package delivered over a fortnight including; PUQ-E assessment, blood collection and interpretation, blood glucose check, weight, IV fluid administered in your home, medication review and scripts, psychosocial and mental health assessment, referral as required, ongoing care planning and collaboration with Tamworth Hospital.
This service bridges the gap between hospital care, when you’re not quite up to inpatient and emergency management but would benefit from treatment to keep you in your home.
If during my attendance, I assess that you do require inpatient or emergency treatment I will call an ambulance and facilitate this transfer in collaboration with Tamworth Hospital Obstetrics team. This service DOES NOT replace emergency care.
